Community equipment services

Following a competitive procurement process, Medequip has been named as preferred provider for the contract to provide community equipment services in Fylde and Wyre.

The community equipment service is an NHS and social care service, available free at the point of delivery to individuals. Service users and carers will receive a consistent, high quality service that enables them to remain safe and independent in their own homes across Fylde and Wyre.

The main purpose of the community equipment service is to provide equipment on loan, free at the point of delivery, to individuals living in the community. This allows them to carry out day-to-day tasks and activities of daily living that they would otherwise be unable to do without such support. Equipment is also provided to support carers to enable them to continue to support loved ones with ongoing care at home.

Community equipment services are logistical support services which buy, deliver, collect and, where appropriate, recycle items of both health and social care equipment. Community equipment will typically be arranged by health or social care professionals for people who need such support. Each year in Lancashire, community equipment services supply more than 40,000 items of equipment to adults and children.

Community equipment services are typically large-scale items such as beds, mattresses and special adaptations for chairs. Smaller items such as Zimmer frames and crutches are managed through a different type of service called the ‘Retail Model’.

Medequip has been selected as the preferred provider of one community equipment service across Fylde and Wyre. The service will provide both health and social care equipment for adults and children.
