Maintaining a healthy weight can do so much for both your physical and mental well-being. If you’re carrying excess weight it means you’re more likely to suffer medical conditions including Type 2 diabetes, Coronary heart disease and certain cancers, including breast and bowel. You also have an increased chance of suffering a stroke and a heart attack and weight issues are also linked to depression. 

Who can lose weight with us?

Staffordshire residents (excluding Stoke on Trent) aged 18 or over and who have:

  •  a BMI of 28+ with a long term medical condition, or
  •  a BMI of 30+ without

How we can help you to lose weight 

Join us in our free weekly nutrition sessions, aimed at providing practical information and advice for creating long-term healthy eating habits. Our sessions are delivered by a qualified Nutritionist and you will also be supported by a Physical Activity Specialist to help maximise weight loss through a tailored exercise programme.

During COVID-19, our sessions were sent to you via a weekly email, with an one to one telephone support throughout the programme from our dedicated team. We are now able to offer Face to Face groups, as well as virtual groups on Zoom, with new evening groups available.

Alternatively, we are proud to be partnering with Slimming World and WW. If you have not used there services within the last year, we are able to provide a free 12 week voucher to join one of your local groups.

Flu Vaccination Clinics

Appointments for Flu & Pneumococcal vaccinations are now available. Please ask at reception for clinic dates & times.

The injected flu vaccine is offered free of charge on the NHS to people who are at risk to ensure that they are protected against catching flu and developing serious complications.

Addiction Services

The practice has a positive attitude towards patients with drug or alcohol related problems and works closely with drug and alcohol agencies in Stafford to provide support for patients with addiction problems.

Antenatal Clinics

If you think you are pregnant you can electronically self refer your pregnancy, please register at www.mypregnancynotes.com or call the community office on 01782 672181.  Clinics are held by appointment and in conjunction with the community midwife on Thursday and Friday.

Asthma and Respiratory Disease

Patients with Asthma and other respiratory diseases should make an appointment for their annual review. You may think your condition is well controlled, but we may be able to make you feel even better!

Baby 6-8 Week Check

These are undertaken by a GP to ensure that your baby is growing and developing normally. Vaccinations against the more serious childhood diseases are given by the practice nurses.

Diabetes

Diabetic reviews are run by our nursing team who are specialised in Diabetes assisted by Dr Chahal where diabetes and its management will be discussed in detail. The Diabetes Nurse Specialist from Staffordshire NHS Trust attends the surgery frequently to help with this care.

Family Planning & Contraception

All of the Doctors are happy to advise you about all aspects of family planning, pre conception care and contraception. All methods of contraception can be discussed and the best option arranged for you. Dr Sue Knight is able to fit coils and contraceptive implants as a form of long acting reversible contraception. If you are prescribed the contraceptive pill you will need to attend for a brief medical examination normally at 12 monthly intervals.
Emergency contraceptive (the morning after pill) is prescribed by all of the Doctors. To be effective you need to seek advice within 72 hours. You can also purchase the emergency contraceptive pill from any Chemist if you are aged 16 or over.

Heart Disease Prevention

These are run by the nurses for people aged 35 to 75 who have had, or who at high risk of vascular disease (angina, a heart attack, a stroke, blockage of leg arteries or related illnesses). Patients receive a basic examination, some tests and advice on how to reduce their risk of further vascular disease. Patients are seen once a year by invitation.

HRT / Menopause Clinics

The nurse is available to discuss all aspects of the Menopause, HRT and contraception.

INR Services

Blood tests to monitor Warfarin control.

Teenage Health

Teenagers can be seen without an appointment to discuss any matters relating to health, contraception & sexual health on a totally confidential basis.

Travel Clinic

The surgery offers a full range of travel vaccinations and advice. Some injections are available on the NHS, whilst others are charged on a private prescription.

It is important to plan at least 4-6 weeks ahead of departure, as some vaccinations are administered as a course of injections.

Please ask for a Travellers’ Immunisation form at the reception desk, or complete the form online.
Fill out your detailed itinerary, including stopovers and any ‘off the beaten track’ areas. We will compare the current recommendations with your vaccination history to identify any gaps. It may be necessary to seek further advice.

Vaccinations

Introduction

We offer a full range of childhood and adult immunisations, protecting against many fatal or damaging diseases.

Meningitis

All children and young adults are being vaccinated against Meningitis. Let us know if you have not been called.

Tetanus:

Adults who have not had a Tetanus booster in the last 10 years should book in for one. If you are not sure, ask !

Flu Vaccinations

The population entitled to have a flu vaccination has been increased to any one over 65, plus anyone with lung disease (including asthma), heart or kidney disease or diabetes. These will be available every year from October.

Pneumonia

Immunisation every 5-10 years for any one with lung disease, diabetes or following splenectomy.

Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B

Vaccinations are available to at risk groups, i.e. some occupations, or drug users. For other groups it may be advisable to be vaccinated, but you may not be entitled to NHS prescription. Please ensure that you complete your course of immunisations in order to get full, long-term benefit.
