By using these services you may be seen more quickly and help to keep the Accident & Emergency Department free to deal with more major emergencies.

Location – Miriam Medical Centre, Birkenhead Medical Building, Laird Street, Birkenhead, CH41 8DB.

Monday-Friday 08:00-20:00 and Saturday and Sunday 08:00-20:00

This service is held at the following locations, the last patient needs to arrive 30 minutes before the stated closing time:

Walk-in via NHS 111

  • Eastham Walk-in Centre (delivered by Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust)

  • Victoria Central Walk-in Centre & Minor Injuries(delivered by Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust)

Monday – Sunday, 8.00am – 8:00pm (including bank holidays)
(X-ray facilities – open at 8.00am – 7.30pm)

  • Arrowe Park Urgent Treatment Centre (delivered by Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust)

Monday – Sunday, 8.00am – 10:00pm (including bank holidays)

These are drop-in clinics for Wirral residents with a minor medical emergency condition that requires treatment, for example:

  • bites/stings/scalds/burns
  • cuts/grazes/lacerations
  • foreign bodies/minor eye injury/minor head injury
  • sprains and strains/wound infections
  • the morning after pill

When attending a walk-in clinic or appointment please remember to:

  • wear a face covering when entering any of our clinic buildings
  • gel your hands upon on arrival in the clinic waiting room
  • sit on designated seats only – due to social distancing our waiting areas have limited capacity.
  • come on your own* (exceptions apply)

Do not attend if you have a high temperature, new/continuous cough or loss/change to your sense of smell or taste.
* Please note, only one adult to accompany a child. Carers of vulnerable adults or children may also attend.

Miriam Primary Care Group Practice Clinics 

Baby clinic 
Every Wednesday 09:45-12:00 for Miriam,  and every Wednesday 13:00-15:00 for Earlston & Seabank. Appointment Only.

Child health and immunisation
All new babies are invited for regular check-ups from six weeks old.

Minor surgery
Dr Mantgani and Dr Paton have experience of working in the surgical speciality and offer a range of minor surgical procedures, such as removals of cysts, skin lesions, or drainages of abscesses and hydroceles plus joint injections. The procedures are undertaken at Miriam Medical Centre, Birkenhead Medical Building.

Diabetes
Led by the practice nurse offering advice and general health check-ups to patients diagnosed with diabetes.

Asthma
Sufferers can make an appointment for advice and support from the practice nurse who specialises in asthma care.

Stop smoking
Run by a health care assistant giving advice and support to patients trying to give up smoking.

Dr Hill (Miriam), Dr Makin (Earlston/Field Road) carry out a programme of health and development screening in conjunction with the health visitors. Parents are invited to register new babies for child health surveillance that continues until age 5.

Non-NHS Work
The surgery offers some medical services which are not available on the NHS eg, insurance medicals and HGV medicals. The doctors charge fees for these services. The receptionists will advise you in advance if you request a service for which there is a fee. (Please see list of fees under the Patient Information Tab).
